Lemon Drop Squares
The Lemon Drop Square Dance Club was formed in 1982, after the first set of lessons. The Club then Federated several years later in 1984.
The Club began when a lady at the Lotawana Methodist Church asked Bill Kanai if he would be interested in teaching square dance lessons to a small group of Church members. Most of the original members were from the Church and several of Bill Kanai!s friends and neighbors.
The name Lemon Drop came about because Bill Kanai kept a jar on lemon drops on the callers table.
The lemon drops were given out as rewards to the dancers. When it came time to select a name, everyone said Lemon Drops.
The Club still dances at the Lotawana Methodist Church on the 4th Friday of the month, and has a membership of 30 couples.
